Panama has two Airports: Tocumen International Airport: Known as one of the most important in the region from its beginnings. Panama’s privileged geographical position as the meeting point between the South and North America and the entire world has always kept it as a key figure in aerial transportation, one that stands out for its experience and safety. It has international flights to large cities in America and Europe such as Miami, Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Madrid and Amsterdam, as well as large cities in the Caribbean, Center and South America. The Tocumen International Airport is located 20.5 miles to the east of Panama City Center; in average, a cab takes around 45 minutes from the Airport to the City. Airlines that offer service to Panama: - American Airlines Albrook Airport: offers flights between Panama City and National destinations, including the three archipelagos of Bocas del Toro, San Blas and the Pearl Islands. Airlines that offer service in Panama: - Aeroperlas (www.aeroperlas.com) Transportation Via Railroad The Panama Canal Railway Company operates the only railroad service: Panama City to Colon (from the Pacific to the Atlantic) in both directions. The trail is absolutely stunning – you will enjoy the views of the Panama Canal, the Gatún Lake, the Pedro Miguel Locks and the tropical jungle. The Railroad leaves from the Corozal Station at 7:00 a.m. and takes approximately one hour to reach Colon, a good starting point to explore the region and its historic fortresses. The same train goes back to Panama City at 5:00 p.m. It works daily from Monday to Friday. Transporation via Buses: The Albrook Bus Terminal, located near the Albrook Airport and the Albrook Mall, has routes to all destinations within the country and also to other countries in Central America. Time to reach the Destination: - Panama City – Santiago (4 hrs.) How to move around Panama City? By Public Transportation: The bus system in Panama City is wide, presenting all users with different routes that are used by thousands of Panamanians and Tourists towards different points in Panama City. Buses usually work from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m, and the fee is low (US$0.25). You cannot miss the chance to see and take one of the “Red Devil” buses. Typically, a “Red Devil” has a customized exterior that includes politicians, celebrities or artists. If you feel ready for the challenge, look for destinations marked in the frontal windshield of the buses, but if you don’t speak Spanish you may have trouble communicating with the bus driver, since most of them don’t speak English.
