At an elevation of 1,700 meters (5,577 feet) temperatures range from 25° C (78° F) during the day to 9° C (48° F) at night for a comfortable stay. A sense of serenity and tranquility await the guest after a long day of sightseeing. A pleasant and inviting guest living room is furnished with comfortable upholstered sofas and chairs, and offers the special warmth of a field stone fireplace. Inside you will find available for guest use a iMac computer with free wireless Internet, stereo and CD's, TV with a collection of DVD movies, books and games.

Immediately off the living room is the porch and terrace. It looks down on a small stream and waterfall, and affords a great view of the woods. Since the porch is shaded in both morning and afternoon, it's a favorite place for guests to relax and converse at the end of their day, and before going to dinner. A wood burning "chimenea" provides a cozy fire while sitting out in the terrace next to the stream.

Packages and Tours

Bird-watching: Panama is a bird watcher's haven, there are 972 bird species in Panama, and over 500 of these can be found in the Chiriqui province! Birding is good year round. Migrants from the north generally arrive in September and October and depart late April.
Birding at Cielito Sur starts right on the porch. Over 115 species have been recorded in our homestead grounds. Mixed flocks of tanagers often pass through, stopping to feed in our fruit tree orchards. A trail provide access to the forest, which begins less than a fifty meters from the Inn. The path winds through the hillside forest, passing several streams, providing an opportunity to see some of the highland bird species. Of particular interest are the hummingbird feeders around the Inn where you can appreciate the Violet Sabrewing, Magnificent Hummingbird, White-throated Mountain Gem, Green Violet-ear, Snowy-bellied Hummingbird, Stripe-tailed Hummingbird, Scintillant Hummingbird, Volcano Hummingbird, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird, Fiery-throated Hummingbird, Green-crowned Brilliant and the Green Hermit.

Cancellation Policy

a. A one night deposit is required to reserve your room. Deposits are pre-payments or a credit card authorization. Your credit card is not charged until check-out or no-show. Deposits are refundable according to the table below:
i. 100% refund if you cancel 10 or more days prior to your scheduled visit
ii. 50% refund if you cancel 5 to 9 days prior to your scheduled visit
iii. no refund if you cancel less than 5 days prior to your scheduled visit
b. Late arrivals are usually responsible for a room left empty for a night.
c. Early departures are usually responsible for the vacant room portion of their reserved stay.
d. By sending us your deposit, you confirm that you have read and agreed to the terms of Cielito Sur's reservation policy.
e. Cielito Sur B&B will make the final decision on any refunds.

How to get there

We are located in the hamlet of Nueva Suiza between the villages of Volcan and Cerro Punta in the Western highlands of the Chiriqui province. Chiriqui is known as the "valley of the moon" by the Ngobe-Bugle Indians. The Chiriqui province borders with Costa Rica and is where Panama's highest peak, the Baru Volcano, rises to the height of 3,475 meters (11,400 ft). Volcan and Cerro Punta are on the western slope of the Baru Volcano while Boquete is on the eastern slope.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If you are in Panama City you can get to David, the provincial capital either by:

Flying out of the Marcos A. Gelabert Airport (PAC) in Albrook. There are three daily flights from Panama City to David from Monday to Friday and two daily flights on weekends. The flight takes about 55 minutes and costs $70.00 one way. In the airport you can rent a car, take a taxi or use our transfer service to Cielito Sur Bed & Breakfast Inn. The trip from David to the B&B takes about one hour. There are several car rental agencies located in the David Airport.

By land from Panama City. You can rent a car or take a bus from Panama City's modern bus terminal located in Albrook beside the airport to the David bus terminal. This trip takes about 7 hours and takes you through the provinces of Panama, Cocle, Herrera and Veraguas. The bus ticket from Panama City to David costs $12.60 one way. In the David bus terminal you can take a taxi or bus to Cerro Punta. The bus trip takes about 2 hours with stops in the towns of Concepcion and Volcan. Bus fare from David to Cerro Punta is $2.65.
